Upstream Color is a film written, directed, produced, edited, composed, designed, cast by and starring Shane Carruth. The film is the second feature directed by Carruth, best known for his 2004 debut Primer.[2] Upstream Color stars Amy Seimetz, Carruth, Andrew Sensenig, and Thiago Martins. Upstream Color is about two people whose lives and behaviors are affected by a complex parasite—without knowing it—that has a three-stage life cycle in which it passes from humans to pigs to orchids.[3] “A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.” At a club, Kris (Amy Seimetz) is tasered and kidnapped by a criminal narcotics producer (mentioned in the credits as the “Thief”). He drugs her, inducing a sort of hypnotic susceptibility, which causes an extremely suggestible mental state that the Thief then exploits. He uses an elaborate set of distractions, such as getting her to create a paper chain where each link features a transcription from the novel Walden, in order to distract her while performing his mind control. He eventually manipulates her to liquidate her home equity and steals a valuable collection of rare coins. Through hypnotic suggestion, Kris is prevented from consuming solid foods. She is only allowed to drink small portions of water at regulated intervals, which she is compelled to perceive as extremely refreshing and delicious. The drug administered to Kris contains a live roundworm—harvested from larvae found among the leaves of the Thief’s special, blue-tinged orchid flowers—that subsequently infects Kris’s system. She is released from her hypnotic state by the Thief, presumably through the act of resuming the consumption of solid foods. Kris binges ravenously and falls asleep in soiled clothes. She awakes in her home to find one or several large roundworms visibly crawling under her skin. She unsuccessfully attempts to remove them by using a kitchen knife. Later, a pig farmer and avid field recorder—the “Sampler”—lures Kris to his farm using infrasonics, which attracts the worm. The Sampler silently sets up a transfusion through which he transfers the worm from Kris’s body into that of a young pig. Kris then awakens in an abandoned SUV on the freeway with no memory of these recent traumatic events. Upon arriving at her disordered house, she quizzically notices blood on her sheets and floors and considers calling the police. She realizes she has nothing informative to tell them and stops dialing. After cleaning up, she heads to work where she is promptly fired for her unexplained absence. The Brass Teapot is a 2012 American film directed by Ramaa Mosley.[2] The movie’s script was written by Tim Macy, who also wrote the short story the movie is based on.[3] The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2012 and was released into theaters and video on demand on April 5, 2013. The movie follows John (Michael Angarano) and Alice (Juno Temple), a down on their luck couple that comes across a Jewish magical brass teapot capable of providing them with money. The only catch is that they must harm themselves in order for the teapot to provide. They must then decide what they are willing to do in order to gain financial security. Critical reception for the film was poor, with The Brass Teapot holding a rating of 26% “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews.[5] The New York Times criticized the film, saying that while the two lead characters were interesting, the “movie’s best bits lose out to the requisite moral turnaround”.[6] The Film School Rejects commented that the darker points of the film’s story line were “ill fitting” in contrast with the predominantly “comically light and slapsticky” tone of the overall movie.[7] In contrast, Variety gave a more positive review for the film, saying that Mosely “makes her low-budget enterprise look as slick as most midrange studio comedies, demonstrating herself a director with both imagination and technical ingenuity”. Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction action adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the first installment of the Jurassic Park franchise. It is based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, with a screenplay written by Crichton and David Koepp. The film centers on the fictional Isla Nublar, an islet located off Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, where a billionaire philanthropist and a small team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of cloned dinosaurs. Before Crichton’s novel was published, four studios put in bids for the film rights. With the backing of Universal Studios, Spielberg acquired the rights for $1.5 million before publication in 1990; Crichton was hired for an additional $500,000 to adapt the novel for the screen. David Koepp wrote the final draft, which left out much of the novel’s exposition and violence and made numerous changes to the characters. Filming took place in California and Hawaii between August and November 1992, and post-production rolled until May 1993, supervised by Spielberg in Poland as he filmed Schindler’s List (1993). The dinosaurs were created with groundbreaking computer-generated imagery by Industrial Light & Magic and with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs built by Stan Winston’s team. To showcase the film’s sound design, which included a mixture of various animal noises for the dinosaur roars, Spielberg invested in the creation of DTS, a company specializing in digital surround sound formats. Following an extensive $65 million marketing campaign, which included licensing deals with 100 companies, Jurassic Park grossed over $900 million worldwide in its original theatrical run. It surpassed Spielberg’s 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to become the highest-grossing film at the time until Titanic (1997). The film was well received by critics, who praised its special effects and Spielberg’s direction but criticized the script. The film won more than 20 awards (including 3 Academy Awards), mostly for its visual effects. Following a 3D rerelease in 2013 to celebrate its 20th anniversary, Jurassic Park became the 17th film with total grosses of more $1 billion. It is the 14th-highest-grossing film worldwide, the 16th-highest-grossing film in North America (unadjusted for inflation), and the highest-grossing film released by Universal and directed by Spielberg. Evil Dead is a 2013 American horror film co-written and directed by Fede Alvarez. It is the fourth installment of the Evil Dead franchise, serving as both a reboot, a remake and as a loose continuation of the series; the first neither to be directed by Sam Raimi, have Bruce Campbell as the main star, nor be composed by the original trilogy’s composer, Joseph LoDuca. After being captured in the woods, an injured girl (Phoenix Connolly) is restrained in a basement with many people present. Upon revealing she is demonically possessed, her father (Jim McLarty) immolates and kills her. Some time later, Mia (Jane Levy), her brother David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore), and their friends Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) and Olivia (Jessica Lucas), arrive at an old, remote cabin in the woods where they plan to help Mia recover from her heroin addiction. David wants to reconcile with his friends and sister, as he left when his mother was committed to an asylum, forcing Mia to care for her. A stench leads them to the cellar, where they discover rotting animal corpses, a double-barreled shotgun and a book titled Naturon Demonto.[a] Ignoring warnings scrawled on the book’s pages, Eric reads a passage aloud, summoning a demon. Believing that something is after her, Mia pleads to leave, but the group refuses, believing that she is suffering from withdrawal. Furious, she hijacks the group’s station wagon and leaves. A demonic version of Mia appears, causing her to crash the car. Returning to the cabin, she encounters demonically possessed trees, which hold her captive while she is possessed. Afterwards, David and Olivia find Mia and take her back to the cabin; visibly traumatized, Mia tells David that whatever attacked her in the woods is in the cabin with them, but he is unconvinced. When Mia kills David’s dog, David walks in on her scalding herself in the shower, which Eric recognizes is prophesied in the book. Battle of Gods is the first film in the series to be considered an official part of the Dragon Ball storyline, being set between chapters 517 and 518 of the original manga during the ten-year time skip, with original creator Akira Toriyama deeply involved.[3] The plot involves Beerus, the God of Destruction, learning of the defeat of the galactic overlord Freeza by the hands of Son Goku. Seeking an opponent worthy of his power, and hearing of a powerful being, Beerus, along with his companion Whis, travels to the north galaxy to challenge Goku to a battle. Whis wakes Beerus, the God of Destruction, from his long slumber and tells him that Freeza was defeated by a Saiyan. Whis continues showing scenes of Goku’s past, until Beerus interrupts him and tells him he has seen enough. 39 years earlier, the Oracle Fish. Beerus, with Whis, then tracks down the warrior who defeated Freeza, Goku. On Kai?-sama’s planet, Beerus proceeds to challenge Goku, who is ecstatic over the new challenge but ultimately becomes overwhelmed and defeated by two strikes, despite having powered up to Super Saiyan 3. The Host is a 2013 American romantic science fiction thriller film adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s novel of the same name. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol,[3] the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, William Hurt, and Diane Kruger. Released on March 29, 2013, the film has been generally panned by critics. The humans have been taken over by small parasitic aliens called “Souls”. The Souls travel to distant planets en masse, in individual capsules, inserting themselves individually into a host body of that planet’s dominant species. The Soul completely replaces the consciousness of its host, though they are able to access the host’s memories. Occupied hosts are identifiable by silver rings that form in the hosts’ eyes. Melanie Stryder is captured and infused with a soul called “Wanderer.” Wanderer is asked by Seeker to access Melanie’s memories in order to discover the location of a pocket of unassimilated humans. Surprisingly, Melanie’s consciousness has not been eliminated, and it struggles for control of her body. Melanie and Wanderer are able to carry out an internal conversation with each other, forming something of a friendship. Wanderer does share with Seeker that Melanie was traveling with her brother, Jamie and her boyfriend, Jared Howe, to find Melanie’s uncle Jeb in the desert. Wanderer admits that Melanie is still present, so Seeker decides to be transferred into Melanie’s body to get the information herself. With the help of Melanie, Wanderer escapes and makes her way to the desert, where she is eventually found by Jeb, who takes her to a series of caves hidden inside a mountain, where the pocket of humans (including Jared and Jamie) is hiding. Wanderer’s presence in the shelter is met with hostility by all but Jeb and Jamie. Seeing this, Melanie instructs Wanderer not to tell anyone she is still alive, fearing that doing so would only provoke them, though she later allows her to tell Jamie, to put his mind at ease. Wanderer begins interacting with the humans and participating in their harvest, and slowly begins to gain their trust, as well as forming a bond with human Ian O’Shea. Through this, she begins to sympathize with them, and question her species’ actions. Seeker leads a search party into the desert to find Wanderer. They intercept one of the shelter’s supply teams, and in the ensuing chase, Aaron and Brandt commit suicide to avoid capture and conversion. Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor is a romance drama film produced, written, and directed by Tyler Perry. The film is adapted from Perry’s play The Marriage Counselor, with several changes. This is the thirteenth film by Perry. It was released on March 29, 2013. The film begins in a run down building with a counselor helping with a couple that are frustrated in their marriage. After an argument that results in the husband leaving the room, the counselor can tell that the wife has met someone and is considering having an affair. She then proceeds to tell her a story about her sister named Judith. Years ago, Judith (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) is a therapist working at a matchmaking agency owned by Janice (Vanessa L. Williams). She is married to her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) whom she has known since she was 6. Brice and Judith attend the same church as her mother Miss Sarah (Ella Joyce), a devout Christian with strong beliefs. Brice is a pharmacist and is soon introduced to a new employee, Melinda (Brandy Norwood). Melinda soon reveals that she is on the run from an abusive boyfriend, who had tried to kill her. Judith is dissatisfied with her job and anxious to start her own business in marriage counseling, but Brice is cautious and tells her to wait until they are more financially stable, which frustrates Judith. She is further frustrated when Brice refuses to confront men who catcall her on their way home from dinner. Judith meets Harley (Robbie Jones) while at work, a wealthy Internet entrepreneur who wants to invest in Janice’s business. Harley attempts to seduce Judith as they work late together on matchmaking surveys. When Harley questions as to why there is no discussion regarding sex, Judith reveals that she does not believe in premarital sex. Harley concludes Judith’s sex life is boring and on a schedule, which leads Judith to question her sex life with Brice. She tries to spice up their sex life later at home, only to be rejected. For her birthday, Judith does something new with her hair and makeup. Brice fails to notice and forgets about her birthday, not for the first time. Later at work, she is sent flowers and happily believes them to be from Brice. However, Harley arrives and immediately takes notice of her change in appearance, revealing the flowers are actually from him. When Judith questions why he is always meeting with her, Harley admits he is willing to do anything just to be near her. At home, Brice still has no idea that it is Judith’s birthday. Judith reminds him by leaving a cupcake with a candle in it on the counter. Realizing his mistake, Brice makes it up to her by dancing in a cowboy outfit and singing. The two happily make up. Trance is a 2013 British psychological thriller film directed by Danny Boyle with a screenplay by Joe Ahearne and John Hodge from a story by Ahearne. The film stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, and Rosario Dawson. The world premiere of the film was held in London on 19 March 2013.[3] Simon, an art auctioneer, becomes involved in the theft of a painting, Goya’s Witches in the Air, from his own auction house. Simon’s colleague Franck confronts him at gunpoint and takes the painting from him. When Franck tries to take the painting, Simon attacks him and receives a blow to the head that leaves him with amnesia. When Franck gets home, he discovers that the package contains only an empty frame. Franck and his offsiders then kidnap and torture Simon, but he has no memory of where he has hidden the painting, so Franck decides to hire a hypnotherapist to try and help him remember. Franck makes Simon choose a hypnotist from a directory, and he chooses a woman named Elizabeth Lamb. Elizabeth and Franck start a relationship and she suggests that she try to seduce Simon to find the painting. She has sex with Simon and hypnotises him. Simon has a dream where Franck and his associates plan to kill him, but he kills them instead. In the dream, he remembers where the painting is, calls Elizabeth and tells her. Simon awakens, only to find Elizabeth is gone. When he calls her, she is on her way to get the painting, which Simon begs her not to. Franck and his associates intercept Elizabeth and force her to lead them to the painting. As she kisses Simon, Elizabeth passes three bullets to him. He attacks Franck with a fire extinguisher and takes the other bullets and his gun. Elizabeth goes back into the apartment, where one of Franck’s associates tries to rape her. Simon kills all three of them and takes Elizabeth to get the painting. She tells him to let Franck come with them. He leads them to a parking garage where the painting is. During the trip, Elizabeth describes an abusive relationship from her past. She reveals that Simon was previously a client of hers who had a gambling addiction he wanted to fix. They started dating and he became obsessed with her and eventually abusive. She used hypnosis to make him forget her which led him back into his gambling addiction. G.I. Joe: Retaliation is a 2013 American military science fiction action film directed by Jon M. Chu, based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe toy, comic and media franchises. It was written by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and serves as both a sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,[7][8] and as a reboot of the franchise.[9] G.I. Joe: Retaliation features an ensemble cast, with Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Byung-hun Lee reprising their roles from the first film. Stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, and Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton round out the principal cast.

In the film, the Joes are framed as traitors by Zartan, who is still impersonating the President of the United States, and Cobra Commander now has all the world leaders under Cobra’s control, with their advanced warheads aimed at innocent populaces around the world. Outnumbered and out gunned, the Joes form a plan with the original G.I. Joe Joseph Colton, to overthrow the Cobra Commander and his allies Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly.[10] Originally slated for release in June 2012, the film was delayed in order to convert the movie to 3D and boost interest in international markets. It was released in North America on March 28, 2013, and received generally negative reviews,[11] but was a box office success, grossing over $375 million worldwide.[6] Duke (Channing Tatum) has become the leader of the G.I. Joe unit, which is framed for stealing nuclear warheads from Pakistan by Zartan (Arnold Vosloo), who is impersonating the President of the United States (Jonathan Pryce). The majority of the unit is subsequently eliminated in a military air strike with Duke among the casualties. The only survivors are Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), Flint (D.J. Cotrona), and Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki). Meanwhile, Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) and ex-Joe Firefly (Ray Stevenson) rescue Cobra Commander (Luke Bracey) from an underground maximum-security prison in Germany, who in turn abandons Destro. Storm Shadow is injured during the escape and retreats to a temple in the Himalayas to recover. Upon learning that he is alive, the Blind Master (RZA), leader of the Arashikage Clan, sends Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and his apprentice Jinx (Elodie Yung), Storm Shadow’s cousin, to capture Storm Shadow so he can answer for the murder of his uncle the Hard Master. Roadblock, Flint, and Lady Jaye return to the United States where they set up a base of operations in a rundown gym. After Zartan announces that Cobra will replace the Joes as America’s elite special forces unit, Lady Jaye deduces that someone is impersonating the President, and Roadblock leads them to General Joseph Colton (Bruce Willis), who provides them with weapons, and helps them infiltrate a fundraising event that the President will be attending (James Carville appears in a cameo). Lady Jaye steals a sample of the President’s DNA and confirms that he is Zartan. The Croods is a 2013 American 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It features the voices of Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman. The film is set in a fictional prehistoric Pliocene era known as The Croodaceous (a period which contains fictional prehistoric creatures) when a caveman’s position as a “Leader of the Hunt” is threatened by the arrival of a prehistoric genius who comes up with revolutionary new inventions as they trek through a dangerous but exotic land in search of a new home. The Croods was written and directed by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders, and produced by Kristine Belson and Jane Hartwell.[5] The film premiered at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2013,[6] and was released in the United States on March 22, 2013.[7] As part of the distribution deal, this film is the first from DreamWorks Animation to be distributed by 20th Century Fox, since the end of their distribution deal with Paramount Pictures.[8] The Croods received generally positive reviews, and proved to be a box office success, earning more than $587 million on a budget of $135 million,[4] and launching a new franchise, with a sequel set for December 22, 2017,[9] and a TV series already put in development. Eep is a cave girl whose family is part of the classification homo erectus living in the harsh environment of the stone age with her overprotective father Grug, her kind mother Ugga, her grandmother Gran and her younger siblings Thunk and Sandy. The only family around after their neighbors met unfortunate ends, Eep lives a sheltered life protected by her father until one night she sees a light outside of the cave. Defying Grug’s rule about going out after dark she follows it and meets a neanderthal boy, an inventive idealist named Guy and his pet sloth Belt who introduces Eep to fire and explains that he is escaping what he calls “The End” saying that a great cataclysm is coming that could destroy Eep and her family. She refuses to go with him, but he gives her a shell to use as a horn if she needed him. Grug, looking for Eep eventually finds her and grounds her for breaking the rules. On their way back to the cave, a tremendous earthquake causes its destruction, revealing a tropical wilderness behind it. They are forced to escape into it when a predator attacks them, and Grug seeks out to find the family a new cave to live in. Upon encountering a feline “Macawnivore” dubbed “Chunky the Death Cat” by Gran, and pirahnakeets that send even him running after they ate a Ground Whale, Eep calls for help with a horn like the shell Guy gave her. He comes and saves them by using a torch to dissuade the piranhakeets from attacking them. After a chaotic first encounter with fire, Eep’s family realizes Guy’s value at their survival and Grug bottles him to guide them toward the mountain he is seeking refuge at. After another of Grug’s morale-lowering stories reflecting the day’s events, Guy tells his own story of a safe paradise dubbed “Tomorrow”. After introducing the family to shoes to get over sharp terrain, Grug begins to get jealous of Guy’s inventions and ideas, and when they become separated in a labyrinth of tunnels, the family excluding Grug find their own means of escaping. After his family stays in a treetop home of Guy’s Grug tries to come up with several of his own ideas, such as a rug dubbed because it rhymes with Grug, sunglasses made from planks of wood.
